Submit Syllabi

To submit a syllabus to be considered for publication on Waymeet, follow the requirements below and submit your work as a PDF file by emailing it to waymeetfortolkienteachers@gmail.com with the Subject: Waymeet [Type] Submission. Include the type of submission in the Subject (e.g., “Subject: Waymeet Syllabus Submission”).

Call for Syllabi Submissions
We are actively seeking new or revised syllabi to publish on Waymeet. Submitted syllabi should:

  • Be from an instructor with experience teaching Tolkien at the post‑secondary level
  • Reflect successful classroom practice within the last 5 years
  • Include any necessary context or notes that will help other instructors adapt your materials

If you teach Tolkien in any post‑secondary context—literature, medieval studies, linguistics, environmental humanities, fan studies, or interdisciplinary courses—we invite you to contribute. 

  • Syllabi submitted must be for courses that have previously been taught by the person making the submission and must be clearly related to the subject of Tolkien’s life or works.
  • Each syllabus submitted must include:
    – Title of Course;
    – Instructor(s);
    – The last semester the course was taught;
    – Department(s) in which the course was taught and course number or year level (graduate, sophomore, junior, etc.);
    – College or university;
    – Email address for instructor(s).
    – General Description: State the nature and purpose of the course in no more than 300 words.
    – Texts: List the required readings used in the course.
    – Syllabus: List the day-by-day topics and/or readings and assignments for the course, including due dates for readings, papers, exams, etc.
    – Grading: Mention the weight of each assignment, how grades are assessed, and how grades are determined.
    – Assignments: Describe briefly all required assignments for the course.
  • The maximum length for any single submission is 5 pages (using margins no less than .75″ and font size of no smaller than 11 pt.)
  • Syllabi must be submitted as PDF documents.
